Hello everyone

May this find you well

There is a famous Disney lyric from the film Mary Poppins that goes, “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.”

And, it is true! Something sweet can always make a bitter thing better.

Similarly, there is something that makes life’s challenges and obstacles easier to transform and overcome - something that can sweeten the occasionally unhealthy state of our mind.

What is it?

In a word: gratitude!

Gratitude is an attitude that grounds our heart and mind in a positive outlook.

Gratitude is a mindset that recognizes all the good fortune that creates this very moment, and the next, and the next ….

As Thanksgiving last week and as the Holidays approach, pausing to cultivate an “attitude of gratitude” will make your holiday even more joyous!

Bar none, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. So many warm and tasty memories:

The smell of turkey filling the house and making me drool with edible anticipation of the meal soon to come;

The u pa king and use of special family China originally belonging to my great grandparents;

The variety of dishes brought and shared by family and friends, and;

The moment just after grace was said and Dad carved the first slice!

Such memories fill my heart and mind with boundless gratitude as I focus on all the good things I have received in life and NOT those things I am without.

The fact that we were born at all, that we have family and friends who love us, that we have food to eat and a roof over our head, that we have a human existence which allows us to cultivate wisdom and compassion as antidotes - as medicine - for facing hard times - is an extraordinary blessing.

As we enter the holiday season, I encourage you to bring an “attitude of gratitude” to everyone you meet and everything you do.

Your life, and the lives of those around you, will be so much sweeter for having done so.

‘Til next time,

Be happy

Be healthy
